Product return policies influence purchasing decisions

Returns in e-commerce pose a challenge: According to a recent study by ICSC the online return rate is three times higher than in brick-and-mortar retail. This also has an impact on purchasing decisions.

  • The online study surveyed around 1,000 consumers in the US market between February 2 and 9, 2024.

  • 82% of respondents said that when buying online, return policies influence where they buy.

  • If online retailers charged a fee for returns, 71% of respondents would be unlikely to shop with them again. 6 out of 10 respondents said they would be unlikely to buy from retailers that shorten the window for free returns.

Amazon is continuing its AI innovations to help sellers create high-quality product detail pages more easily and quickly.

  • Previously, it was possible for generative AI to create product titles and descriptions using a product image or a few words.

  • Now sellers can enter a URL to their own website to create product detail pages in the Amazon Store.

  • For the time being, the feature is only being introduced for US sellers.
