GPSR compliance on Amazon: Everything EU sellers need to know about the Product Safety Regulation

Why GPSR is Important on Amazon

The new EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) has been in force since December 13 2024, introducing extensive obligations for manufacturers, retailers, and importers of consumer products selling on the EU market. It aims to enhance consumer protection and make products sold in the EU safer. For Amazon sellers and vendors, this specifically means providing detailed product safety information, from safety images to manufacturer details.

But don’t worry – it sounds more complicated than it actually is. With Remdash, you can not only meet these new requirements seamlessly but also manage them efficiently.

What is GPSR, and How Does it Affect Amazon Sellers?

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) dictates that consumer products sold in the EU must be safe under all reasonably foreseeable conditions. For Amazon sellers, this means:

  • Providing product identification, including manufacturer and importer details, and address information.
  • Uploading safety images, warnings, or security notices in Seller Central or Vendor Central.
  • Complying with strict documentation requirements.

This can be particularly challenging for retailers listing products on Amazon, as the platform enforces rigorous compliance checks for all products sold. Failure to meet GPSR requirements could result in product suspensions or account restrictions.

Step-by-Step Guide: Uploading GPSR Information to Seller Central or Vendor Central

1. Preparing Your Data

Before starting the upload process, ensure that all required compliance information is ready:

  • Safety images: Use image codes PS01 to PS06 (e.g., for warnings or pictograms).
  • Manufacturer details: Include the name, address, and contact information.
  • Responsible person: If the manufacturer is outside the EU, a responsible person within the EU must be designated.

2. Uploading Data in Seller Central

In Seller Central, you can review and update warning and safety information under the “Account Health” section, specifically under “Policy Compliance.” Each ASIN with missing GPSR data will be flagged for action.

This process must be repeated for each EU store. Images, on the other hand, are most easily uploaded using the Image Manager or Bulk Upload with the image code PS01 to PS0X.

3. Uploading Data in Vendor Central

In Vendor Central, affected products and their compliance requirements are listed under Items > Manage Product Compliance. Safety information and documents can be uploaded for each ASIN here.

4. Uploading Images

For both Amazon Sellers and Vendors, the easiest way to upload safety images is to use image codes such as PS01. This ensures these images appear under the Safety Information section, not in the product gallery. Use either the Image Manager, bulk uploads, or vendor support cases for this purpose.

Challenges in GPSR Compliance

Many Amazon sellers face common difficulties when implementing GPSR requirements:

  • Time-consuming processes: For large product catalogues, manual updating of data is not time-effective.
  • Lack of transparency: Tracking all safety data is often difficult.
  • Consequences of non-compliance: Restrictions on Amazon can result in a loss of sales.
  • Slow uploads: Uploaded information doesn’t always go live immediately, requiring constant monitoring.

An efficient monitoring and management tool like Remdash can make a crucial difference.

How Remdash Helps You Meet GPSR Requirements

Remdash is specifically designed to help Amazon sellers and vendors handle product data and safety requirements seamlessly. Here’s how it supports GPSR compliance:

For images, the target/actual comparison feature can also be used to check whether the desired images are live on the product detail pages rather than images automatically generated by Amazon, which may not display the product appropriately.

3. Immediate Action on Blocked ASINs

The tool uses notifications to warn you of any issues, for instance, if an ASIN is not found, indicating a possible penalty by Amazon for non-compliant listings. This allows you to react quickly and rectify the problem before significant revenue is lost.

Proactive GPSR Compliance as a Competitive Advantage

GPSR compliance isn’t just a legal requirement, it’s also an opportunity. It signals professionalism and builds customer trust in your brand. With tools like Remdash, you can efficiently meet new requirements, optimise workflows, and focus on growing your Amazon business!
