General Updates

Amazon launches shopping website in Sweden

With the launch of Amazon.se on October 28th, Amazon offers Swedish customers more than 150 million products in 30 categories, and kicks off Amazon’s presence in the Nordic countries. Customers from Sweden have already been able to shop on Amazon websites in other European countries such as Germany, but this has involved high shipping costs. Amazon.se offers tens of thousands of products from Swedish companies, according to Alex Oostes, Amazon’s Vice President for EU Expansion.

Amazon’s Prime Day 2020 was a win for small businesses and customers

According to Amazon, sellers experienced their two biggest days on Prime Day with sales of more than $3.5 billion. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 60% and thus more growth than Amazon’s retail business. Top-selling third-party product categories included bed linen, wireless accessories, nutrition and wellness, arts, crafts and sewing, and healthcare products.

Early Black Friday deals are starting

After Prime Day 2020, Amazon is now starting its Early Black Friday Deals from October 26. At the same time, the competition is also starting up well before the traditional shopping season: Walmart, Best Buy and Target are already offering discounts, some of which are valid for the entire pre-Christmas period.

Decathlon turns online store into marketplace

New competition for Amazon in the sporting goods sector? Decathlon is transforming its Belgian online store into a platform where other brands and partners can sell their sports products–from Adidas to local start-ups. The project will also be extended to other countries.

Amazon wants to pay consumers for external purchase receipts

Amazon Shopper Panel is a program that pays consumers directly for answering surveys and giving information about what they buy outside of Amazon.com. Users are expected to submit 10 receipts per month for purchases made at retailers outside of Amazon: These include grocery stores, department stores, drugstores, and entertainment venues such as cinemas, theme parks, and restaurants.

US-Amazon workers threaten warehouse shutdown for day off to vote

More than 6,500 U.S. Amazon employees have supported a proposal that all workers should have a paid day off to vote. Should this not happen, Amazon logistics centers are to be temporarily shut down on October 31. According to Amazon, workers can apply for time off, but the duration and payment of this time off depends on state legislation. With more than 600,000 employees, Amazon is the second largest employer in the country: Other companies, such as Walmart, offer paid leave nationwide, and some, such as Best Buy and Patagonia, close for a few hours on election day to give employees time to vote.

Despite the sales boom at Amazon during the pandemic, the number of sellers did not increase: although the rewards have grown larger, the competition remains practically the same. The resulting gap between supply and demand is filled by existing sellers – an interesting analysis of this can be found at Markeplace Pulse.

Analysis: Nike has stopped selling on Amazon, how does it look one year later?

In November 2019 Nike stopped the wholesale of its goods to Amazon. Back then, the brand didn’t need the additional sales, and even less today – accelerated by the COVID-19 outbreak, direct e-commerce jumped to 30% of Nike’s total sales. This figure was not expected until 2023. Obviously, Nike is an exception here: the brand is strong enough to attract customers to its own channels.

What caught our attention

In Vendor Central, the numbers for page impressions and the conversion rate are now visible.

Amazon has begun to highlight various products with a special badge as ‘Christmas shop’.

Comment: Preparing for Amazons upcoming Sale Events.

“After Prime Days is before Cyber Week,” is the motto on Amazon this year. As of week 44, the period of the Early Black Friday Deals has officially begun. This year it lasts from October 26th to November 19th, and then continues with Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

  • Early Black Friday Deals: October 26th to November 19th
  • Black Friday: November 27th
  • Cyber Monday: November 30th

Therefore, it is even more important for everyone to prepare for this long deal period. In addition to checking the inventory levels and setting up the last Amazon deals, you should also make sure to adjust the advertising campaigns with relevant keywords.
One last tip: In case there are no Amazon Deals left on your account for Black Friday, it is always worth using coupons or price reductions to take advantage of the increased traffic on the platform during this time.
